TEN Virtually UNBEATLEABLE BEATLE RECORDS
They say that, to remenber is to live and the passion of music makes so many memories, that we love and cherrish so much.
It is difficult to appreciate just how big the biggest stars of each generation are in relation to the stars of other generations.
It is tempting to think that the biggest stars of yesterday were about as big as the biggest stars of today.
This might be true generally but there are at least 2 exceptions. Elvis Presley & The BEATLES, both in sales & influence, they far outshine any other stars.
I have tried to put together some provable facts to show just how massive & how influential the BEATLES were.
1 Total Albums sold worldwide : 2,303,500,000 Source R.I.A.A Apple Corps, E.M.I
*Singles & Albums were 3x dearer than they are today & there were only a VERY small fraction of Record Players to play them on compared to today CDs & MP3
2 The Beatles are the only act to chart in the Billboard Hot 100’s top five simultaneously. The week of April 4, 1964, they ranked at Nos. 1-5 with “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Please Please Me,” respectively. Source Billboard
3 In 1964 in the US, 60% of all records sold were BEATLE records ( Source Billboard + various)
4 Largest TV audience in one Country 73 million viewers when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show (US) Feb. 9, 1964, (Source Billboard, Wiki, +various)
5. Largest TV audience WorldWide for a Live Music act 400 million 25th June 1967 when they ‘starred’ in the first WorldWide television Satellite programme. Broadcast to 25 countries live (though a pre-recorded backing track was also used.) (Source Wiki + various TV sites)
6. During the BEATLES 371 week active career. Their Albums topped the U.K. charts for 163 weeks & their singles 69 weeks. statistics which would have been even higher but for the sales volume in the first 2 weeks of each release being huge. (New Musical Express & Record Retailer. The official UK charts in the 1960/70s)
7.There have been at least 10,000 books published about the Beatles, I have found it impossible to quote an accurate from one certified source. There are at least 1000 books still in print &/or available about them today. (Source Just personal knowledge)
8.The highest record sales for any artist/s in the decade 2000/2010, 30/40 years after the Beatles split up was by …. The Beatles (Source R.I.A.A Apple Corps, E.M.I.)
9. Last year, 43 years after they stopped recording, The Beatles were still the 3rd highest grossing artists $71Mil (Source Forbes)
